The Aftermath
After all that rescuing of stranded motorists Hubby is pretty burnt out, he's gone back to bed for some more rest. Even I feel a little exhausted this morning and all I did was watch. It's pretty quiet around here this morning.
I can honestly say I've never seen a worse storm. My views of the aftermath are somewhat limited but from what I can see, there was quite a dumping of snow, drifts as high as the fences, there's tree damage, the roads are cleared but the piles left by the plows are just incredible.
If we manage to get to town at all today, new snow shovels will be on the list of things to buy. Ours has been on it's way to the garbage dump for a while, we've just been looking for the perfect snow shovel, and hadn't even looked at them this year at all, yet.
My father had the perfect snow shovel. Ever since I was a kid, he had this shovel, I used it all through my childhood. It had an aluminum scoop, it was very lightweight yet sturdy. After he sold his house it got moved to the cottage where we used it to shovel off the roof in the winter. When we sold the cottage and were clearing it out I found that shovel behind one of the sheds and thought "Finally this puppy is mine, yay!" I picked it up, and it fell apart in my hands! Such disappointment ensued. I've been on the lookout for one like it ever since, with no luck. I find most shovels are A) too big, too long and B) too heavy for me to use comfortably. There's only so much we can do with the snowblower, we still need to shovel. One of the chains came off one of the wheels, and Hubby hasn't bothered putting it back on yet, so that makes it awkward to use. I suppose he'll have to get it back on now.
Change of subject, I got another email about the TV stand I posted on Freecycle, but again I haven't heard back from them that they want it. It was nicely tucked away in the roughed in washroom/walk in closet, then we dragged it out to take pictures of it, and it now sits in the middle of the familyroom, being all gaudy and in the way. It's too damn heavy to keep moving around, so we left it out thinking someone was gonna come snatch it up. I'm thinking I shouldn't have offered the photos. They can probably tell how heavy it is by seeing it and that's why no one wants it.
Ah well, stay warm and have a lovely day.
