I'm happily married to Mr. Man. We have 2 daughters, Big R and Little R. I'm a stay at home mom. We moved from the big city to the country, living a dream. I'm a collector and a packrat. I'd rather read a book than watch a movie. I battle depression. I love life, but that wasn't always the case. This is my journal.

The Friendship Book

Good morning.
Wow was it ever cold in the house this morning! We have the heat turned down to conserve on our propane. Long story. The point is its bloody cold and I had to start a new fire the minute I opened my eyes. Once the fire gets going it puts out a lot of heat, but it takes a while for it to get going good. Sigh.
So, I came across this book. I assume it was thrown in one of my great deals on books at a yard sale last summer. Its called "The Friendship Book" of Francis Gay, 1975. Essentially what it is, is a hard cover blog from 1975. There is a dated entry for each day of the year. A lot of the entries have a religious tone, but some don't. I've been randomly flipping through it, one entry I came across was this...
Friday-July 25.
What is wrong with the world?
Abraham Lincoln came near to the answer when one day he laid hands on a couple of small boys who were about to fight. They yelled as he led them home; and a neighbour, hearing the fuss and seeing the gaunt man keeping tight hold of the youngsters, called out, "What's wrong?"
With a grin, Lincoln replied: "The same trouble as the world is in. One of these lads has a nut, and the other one wants it."
That's the trouble-in a nutshell!

So this book is full of little stories etc. just like that. Opposite page, there is a photo of a man and a small boy playing in the sand at a beach. Under that is a little poem...
Showing How
There's any amount of astonishing things
For folk to dig up on the beach
And young 'uns are never too little to learn
When old 'uns are willing to teach.

Pretty cool eh? I think so. So you see, blogs aren't such a new thing. Computers and the internet are the new things. People have been writing daily entries for a long time. Logs are nothing new, which is what "blog" is, short for web log. There are blogs on every subject under the sun. Many are like mine, just a personal journal, many are commercial and many are religious and inspirational, like this book. I look at my blog and my site, as something I will leave behind. These things can and may live on long after I'm gone. I think it would be great comfort to those who love me to go to my blog, after I'm gone, and read an entry and think back and say "Hey! I remember that day!" And they can remember what else happened that day which I didn't mention on my blog, because I don't write about every single little or large thing that happens you know. Or to look through all the photos I've posted. I think it's a great thing. Obviously, or I wouldn't be doing it all the time. And I don't have to go to any trouble trying to get it published. The internet will live on long after I'm gone. I am leaving a little piece of myself here, for all the world to see.
And on that note...the fire needs a poke and a blow. Have a great day!
