Ditch Bound
Good morning.
Went to bed around 9 last night, so of course I'm up at 4. It is bitter cold outside and we actually finally have a bit of snow on the ground.
I guess I could tell you about our truck in our ditch the other day lol.
Hubby was taking the bike to a heated garage, where it will likely stay for most of the winter now. He was also doing this in the morning, before going to work, so this little adventure started around 4 a.m.
What he normally does in order to get the bike onto the bed of the truck is, back the truck into our ditch so the tailgate is resting on the ground. Can you picture that? We don't have a ramp, (hmm, things to buy Hubby for Christmas, a bike ramp! lol). Then he just rolls the bike onto the truck and away he goes. Well, not quite, theres a lot of fooling around tying it and whatnot, and then away he goes. So he got the bike loaded on, and then he couldn't get out of the ditch! With all the rain the ground was too wet and soft. Sooooo, he hooked my car to a rope to pull him out, then came in to sweet talk me into getting dressed and going outside at 4-5 a.m in the pouring rain to pull him out. Yes dear, of course. I'm pulling, I'm hearing funny noises, I don't want to rip the ass end off my car. Finally the rope snapped. I pulled into the driveway and came in the house like a sane person.
Next thing I know, a neighbour, who we don't even know, pulls up, on his way to work. He's in a truck, this should work, better than a car. He hooks up, nothing, he's just sliding all over the road. Ok, sorry man, I tried, gotta jet, yeah thanks a mill, have a great day.
Side note...thats the difference of here and the city, down there he would have just honked at Hubby to get the hell out of his way, not stop and try to help.
Then Hubby comes in the house, "I wonder if K.H is up yet?" By now it's probably after 5 a.m. He calls his FRIEND K.H, who lives just down the street, and he did happen to be up, and he was here within a couple of minutes.
So I guess they tried with his truck too, nothing. Hubby was STUCK in that ditch. They ended up off loading the bike, and just getting the truck out of the ditch. The ground was just too soft and the bike was just too heavy.
That night Hubby came home with a borrowed trailer, we don't have a bike trailer either, but it sure is great to have FRIENDS. He uneventfully loaded the bike onto the trailer by himself. The end.
Later that day when I went to check the mail, I couldn't help but notice, the tire ruts and gouges in my front ditch, from spinning tires digging into it and spewing clumps of my well manicured grass all over the place. LOL what a mess. Actually, I'm exaggerating, it isn't that bad. Theres only a couple of clumps of sod. And that is why we actually just happened to still have that rope in the truck when we saw the jeep in the ditch.
And the moral to this story is, to call someone at 5 a.m and ask them to come out in the cold pouring rain to help, wasn't asking too much, BECAUSE, they know that if the tables were turned, and they needed us, we would be there in a flash. They, and we, are not so arrogant to think, that we would never need the other, sometime down the road. YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE in life.
Have a peachy Sunday peeps.
