Here's To A Speedy Recovery
Rather than sitting around the house waiting to go without the benefit of coffee for Hubby, we decided to leave early. As we're driving we pull out the little checklist, no food or drink since midnight, check, pre-op blood work and forms filled out, check, make sure you have your health card, NOPE. He left his wallet at home, with his health card in it. So we turned around and came back home to get it. Fortunately, we were only a couple of miles down the road. We stopped in town to get me a Timmys coffee and a breakfast sandwich (I've been eating far too many of those things lately) and we were on our way. We still got there about 45 minutes early. So we sat out in the car chatting and smoking for a while. We still went in early. And we still had to wait, wait, wait. Most of our time there was spent waiting. Eventually we were in a cubicle and Hubby was getting naked and things were gonna happen now. More waiting. Finally they came to get him and take him off to his operation. I immediately slipped out for a smoke. I stayed out in the car smoking and reading until about the time I was told he would be brought back to the cubicle from the recovery room. He still wasn't back so I settled in the cubicle reading magazines that were sitting there on a windowsill. I found a magazine I had never seen before called "Country Woman". In it I found a recipe for Watermelon Sorbet. It looked delicious. I read the recipe a couple of times trying to memorize it. I did consider writing it down but didn't think I would have time for that. I also considered just taking the magazine with me when I left, or at least tearing that page out to take home, but that just seemed too dishonest. I found the magazine has a website and figured I could just look it up online at home. I did. I can't get the recipe from it without buying a subscription. I Googled the recipe and can't find the same one. I've found millions of variations, but not THE ONE I saw today, grrrrrr.
Meanwhile, I was told Hubby would be coming out of recovery around 2:30 - 3:00. So by ten after three I started to worry a bit. By 3:30 I was starting to panic a bit. In the meantime, I had to keep running out to put more money in the parking meter, having a quick smoke while I was out there. I wanted to be there waiting for him when they brought him in. As it turned out, around 4 they brought him back while I was out getting my book from the car. He was only there for a minute alone before I came back in. I was so relieved to see that he was alright that I immediately teared up when I saw him. He was alert and coherent. I guess I missed the fun part that takes place in the recovery room, where he is coming out of it, babbling and drooling. They brought him a pain pill, a ginger ale, a coffee and toast with peanut butter! It was about another hour waiting in the cubicle for them to be satisfied that he was fit to go home.
Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. Sure there was a lot of waiting but it wasn't so bad. When they finally released him, I went to get the car while they wheeled him out to the pick up area. Even the drive home was better than I expected, it was all pretty straight forward.
He is ambulatory. He's been walking without crutches or his cane. I'm afraid he may be over-doing it. I'm just totally amazed how mobile he is! It looks like things will really, truly be getting back to normal soon!
We let the dogs out, then went to pick up Little R. We just grabbed dinner from the chip wagon. Watched a couple of comedy videos Hubby had picked up at the Thrift Store the other day and now they are both in bed while I am here blogging.
I'm very glad it's over and hope the operation was a success. I already know he will have a speedy recovery. Now hopefully I can get my car back tomorrow.
The miracle of day surgery.
Have a great night.
